Building confident teams at Mother

Shaping industry-defining campaigns through DEI

We worked with Mother, the award-winning independent agency to redefine its approach to creativity through the lens of inclusion, with a diagnostic, vision setting, strategy and all-agency learning programme forming core components of the partnership.

We undertook a thorough review of the colleague sentiment through a series of listening sessions and interviews with agency team members across levels and disciplines.

This identified the need to define and align on what DEI meant to Mother and how their commitments show up in everyday work. We led DEI Foundations sessions with the Board to arrive at a meaningful and tangible definition and create a practical set of working principles.

These principles for ways of working were brought to life with a set of bespoke tools to be used at specific parts of the creative process, which was delivered alongside a series of tailored learning modules. This equipped teams with the critical thinking skills and practical knowledge required to ask the right questions of themselves - and clients - in the pursuit of creating even more award-winning, inclusive campaigns.

There is a common misconception that  focusing on DEI is a distraction. However, in a year where Mother invested in focused DEI efforts, they also had their highest annual revenue yet alongside being named agency of the year by Campaign and MAA, proving that - if anything - a focus on inclusion helps to supercharge culture and creativity.

“The Unmistakables epitomise excellence in creating safe spaces and fostering incredible learning environments within the creative ecosystem. The team brings with them warmth, inclusivity and innovation in equal measure. Their commitment to providing safe spaces is evident in every interaction to ensure agency members feel valued, respected, and empowered to explore their creativity without fear or judgement.

"The learning programme we ran with The Unmistakables was crafted with meticulous attention to detail and informed by a deep understanding of the intersection between DEI and the creative landscape. The dynamic curriculum blended theory with hands-on practice, fostering an environment where discussion and debate was encouraged. We have also worked closely with them to help us articulate our DEI vision in relation to our culture, day-to-day work and creative output.  Our teams now feel empowered to have braver, more confident conversations as teams and with clients in pursuit of creating even better work that challenges the status quo.

"I wholeheartedly recommend them to any creative agency seeking to better understand how to positively harness the intersection between DEI and creativity.”
