Why B Corp matters to The Unmistakables

Amani Saeed

In case you missed the news, we were certified as a B Corp last month–with a reclaimed wooden plaque and a suite of spreadsheets of evidence as proof. For those who don’t know, B Corp is a way of measuring a company’s entire social and environmental impact through one certification process. We spoke to the team about what it means to be part of a company that has become a B Corp:

Roxanne (Project Manager): I didn’t know what B Corp was before, or what the goal or purpose of the certification was. I’d seen the logo on lots of other businesses and always wondered what it stood for. I know that it took a lot of work for colleagues to achieve, and know it will take even more work to retain. It aligns with the work The Unmistakables does in terms of making a difference and being part of change in a wider sense. We as a society as a whole are in desperate need of change from a sustainability perspective, so more companies getting B Corp certified can only be a good thing.
Selina (Principal Consultant) — I’m proud that we’ve got certified - as an EDI consultancy, we should be holding ourselves to account and to a high standard when it comes to sustainability. There was a lot of work put into getting the certification, and it isn’t over just because we’ve got the plaque. Because we have to renew the certification every few years, it’s really important that we continue to maintain the standard that got us here. We think broadly anyway when we consult; but it’s good to have a measurable and tangible way of thinking about our impact through the lens of sustainability.
Eli (Inclusion Executive) — I think it’s an amazing achievement for our organisation. Sustainability intersects with DEI in a variety of ways and being a part of B Corp really demonstrates our commitment to the betterment of the planet. We’re talking the talk, but also walking the walk.
Joe (Project and Operations Manager) — I think it’s really good that we’re certified. In 2024, every business should be doing this. I see other companies with the certification but am still learning what that means in terms of the level of detail. We know from our end that it’s certainly been a lot of work to get certified. But that work shows that companies are actively working toward a sustainable future. As an EDI company, this is part of what we should be doing. I’m really proud of the work the team has done to get there — especially our alumni, Rosie, who has gone on to lead the ED&I agenda at Greenpeace.
Asad (CEO) – I kept looking at those little B Corp logos on adverts and packaging and realising that while the stamp might be small, the work that goes into getting them is huge. I’m so proud that The Unmistakables is now part of this amazing community of businesses that are committed to creating positive change in society.
